I'm a 2nd Year ophthalmology resident, recently got this book by indication of one of my professors.lets put it this way: he is a guy who graduated with 4.0GPA all over med school. his words were:"this is one of the best books, if not the best on clinical opthalmology there is. "I wish I had gotten this book earlier on my 1st year, but I dont regret at all getting it right now.Plenty of images and schemes, straightforward text and easy reading gives you a very good insight on physical examination.this is critical to help you correctly interpret what you are seeing and point you on the correct path towards the syndromic diagnosis (if not the diagnosis).get this book and the Ocular Pathology book and you are set to understand the underlying events in ocular disease and become a master clinician.

I had to give it some tender love and care. I taped up the binding and re-glued it. The entire binding was coming off when I got it. The book is great. Adding it to the collection of knowledge!

As a first year ophthalmology resident, I wanted an atlas to supplement the topics presented in the BCS series. The text in BCS is quite thorough but the pictures may as well have been taken from space they way they show detail. So far, I have been very impressed with the Spalton atlas. They have tons of large, high quality pictures, but as other reviewers have stated, the biggest benefit is the cartoon drawings next to each picture with arrows and labels to point out the important features (Contrast to BCS -- they give you a picture of the entire fundus of a diabetic patient for "IRMA" and let you guess where it is). The only downsides of this book as far as I'm concerned are as mentioned by others: 1) the binding is definitely not sturdy enough for the size of the book, 2) the CD-ROM is not well organized for looking up images (i.e. the descriptions are often not correctly tied to the search engine), and 3) the price (although not much different from a lot of other similar books). Otherwise, I would give it 5/5. Still highly recommend this to any ophthalmology resident looking for a good picture atlas.

This Atlas is a fantastic book but it was very badly packed - in a much too big box and without protection!!! - the cover got damaged, probably during the transport. I'm very disappointed because the book was expensive and the cover looks ugly, like it was used and not respected at all and I ordered a NEW book.

This book is very informative and has beautiful photos. For people who will be working in the field, it came highly recommended.

Improved over previous editions with more photos, diagrams and illustrations. Complete from anterior to posterior segment. A must-have for any eyecare provider.
