About the Author

Yay! You're going to be an engineer, congrats! Now if your professor wants you to use this textbook for homework, expect endless nights of tears and suffering because this book expects you to know what you need to know without knowing what you don't know. This book was literally a punishment for choosing the engineering field because, unless you are taught well and then use this book, it will be useless. For example, if you have an assignment with several questions from this book, and you don't understand how to do them, the book will typically make it worse and make you rethink your major choice. I hate my professor for making me utilize this book and I feel like this should not be a text book, it should be more like a reference for you after you get your degree.

...then I google the subject and read/watch something much easier to understand. Unfortunately, this is a required textbook for my Modern Digital Systems Design class, but I find it really hard to follow the sentences and the paragraphs. I thought the fault was on me, but I remember enjoying very much reading through Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Differential Equations textbooks. This textbook, however, is painstakingly difficult to read - event though some stuff is pretty straighforward to understand, as I said before, once when you look it up on other sources.

This book is your punishment for being an electrical engineering major! It makes the simple things complicated, provides many exercises without any solutions to provide you with feedback to verify your understanding is right, and also has so much ambiguity in the statement of problems that everyone, including your teacher(s), will have a different interpretation of what the correct solution is.Ditto with the Simuaid/Logicaid software - it's so advanced that no version of windows can run it without crashing.

The book is not very good at teaching the concepts it covers, and the questions and chapters require a more intuitive understanding of the material than what the book can provide. I had to purchase this for a class, and I rarely open it for more than a baseline definition. You are better off loking elsewhere for a better book for the money.

Garbage text book!! While reading, you will spend most of your time confused, irritated, and eventually giving up. You will stop reading the text book and rely on YouTubing the Unit titles.

Its ok. could have more pictures. really takes time to understand the material; would do better with online slides from free places

This book is terribly written. This subject is much harder to learn when the book sucks. I have to mostly depend on lecture and my professor sucks to so I'm self teaching through online resources.

Not great. Not bad. Supplementing a decent instructor it was very passable. The programming side of this book is what makes it stand out from others. Getting familiar with microprocessors and some basics regarding computer architecture should be the take away here. Learn and known boolean algebra before getting into the course and you'll be well ahead of the game. It doesn't take too long on your own, and it does take several classes for the professor to go through it all. Your first test's material will probably end with converting boolean expressions so if you can get that down before starting the class you'll have a good time. Same goes for base conversions (decimal to hexidecimal, octal to binary, etc.)
